“If there were a view that said “this is New Zealand”, this would be it.”
Bob, USA – November 2019

Whether you’re exploring Milford Sound, hiking one of Fiordland’s Great Walks, or simply escaping everyday life for a few days, Fiordland Eco-Retreat offers a place to slow down, reconnect and experience one of New Zealand’s most extraordinary landscapes in comfort.
“If you ever get the chance, stay here. The home is modern and has all the luxury of a 5 star hotel AND the nature immersion to feel like you are so far away. Susanna was a wonderful host, very welcoming and warm. The hot tub gives views of mountains all afternoon and stars into the night. This place doesn’t even feel like real life.”
Hazel, Australia – August 2023
Every stay at Fiordland Eco-Retreat combines exceptional comfort with genuine sustainability. Large windows frame the ever-changing lake and mountain views, private outdoor spaces invite you to slow down, and carefully considered details ensure you’ll feel at home from the moment you arrive.
Return from Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound or the region’s renowned walking tracks to soak in your own private hot tub, prepare a relaxed meal in your kitchen or kitchenette, and dine outdoors while taking in the mountain views. Eco-Villa guests can also enjoy the shared wood-fired sauna (from late December 2026 onwards), adding another layer of relaxation to the experience.
As darkness falls, step outside to discover some of New Zealand’s darkest skies. Whether you’re unwinding in the hot tub, simply looking up from your deck, or taking part in an on-site small-group stargazing experience, the stars provide a memorable end to each day in Fiordland.

“Susanna and Glen have created a wonderful home in a most idyllic location, with extraordinary attention to detail. They were hospitable from the moment we arrived and even made sure we saw the southern lights, which were visible from their front garden. The hot tub was wonderful to experience after our hiking in beautiful Fiordland. We were inspired by all aspects of Susanna and Glen’s sustainable living/construction efforts and their home really lives up to its name of Fiordland Eco-Retreat. We hope to return again!”
Mary, USA – October 2024
