Bookings
Do you have any minimum stay requirements?
Yes, we usually have a 2-night minimum stay, but require a 3-night minimum stay over the 4-weeks from mid-December until mid-January. If our booking calendar shows shorter availability gaps, these should be bookable via our booking system.
How much do I need to pay to secure my booking?
A 20% upfront payment secures your dates and any third-party activity bookings, with the remainder payable two weeks before arrival. This is automated to come off your original payment card, but we’ll send a reminder email to you two days prior to this second transaction occurring.
Do you charge a booking fee / credit card surcharge?
Although we get charged an ~3% surcharge for all card payments, we choose to absorb these costs ourselves. Please note that, should you choose to cancel your stay, this surcharge cannot be refunded to you.
Will my card payment be secure?
Yes, we use Windcave, a highly reputable New Zealand company as our payment processing partner.
What is your cancellation policy?
What are your check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is from 4pm and check-out is by 10am on the day of arrival. We cannot guarantee that we can accommodate an early check-in or late check-out, but please do ask if this is important to your schedule.
What card types do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard and AMEX.
Can I pay by New Zealand bank transfer?
Yes, absolutely! Please contact us and we will process a manual booking for you, and send an invoice for payment.
Can I pay by international bank transfer?
Yes, please contact us and we will process a manual booking for you. Please note that you will be responsible for paying any international transaction fees.
Do you provide EV charging?
We intend to install an EV charger for our guests staying in The Lookout, but this is not yet in place.

Can you help us arrange Fiordland experiences?
Yes. As Fiordland locals, we’re happy to help you plan your itinerary and arrange selected experiences with trusted local operators.
We can recommend activities that suit your interests, fitness level, available time and travel style. Experience costs can be added to your accommodation booking, making it simple to organise your Fiordland stay in one place.
Are package prices fixed?
Package prices shown on our website are indicative and subject to availability.
Many experiences are operated by third-party providers, and pricing may change depending on the operator, season, availability and your chosen travel dates.
Accommodation-inclusive package pricing is based on our lowest available accommodation rate during the operating period of the selected experience. We will provide a personalised quotation based on your preferred dates and itinerary
Are there any additional booking fees?
No. We include any applicable third-party booking or administration fees in your quoted package price, so there are no unexpected booking charges when arranging your experiences through Fiordland Eco-Retreat.
What happens if I need to cancel a package?
Your accommodation component is subject to our standard cancellation policy.
Where a package includes third-party experiences, those activities may have different cancellation policies and deadlines set by the individual operator. We will advise you of any applicable third-party terms before your booking is confirmed.
Do I need travel insurance?
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance for all guests booking experiences or packages.
This may provide cover for unforeseen circumstances such as illness, travel disruption, weather-related changes or cancellation costs associated with third-party activities.
What happens if we arrive too late to shop at the supermarket?
Te Anau’s restaurants generally close earlier than those in larger cities, particularly outside the main tourist season. There are also limited food options between Queenstown and Te Anau, so we recommend planning ahead if you are arriving late.
We can arrange local food hampers in advance and have them waiting in your accommodation for your arrival. Specific requests can usually be accommodated with advance notice.
