Arrive to a beautifully heated wood-fired sauna, ready to enjoy.
Our wood-fired sauna is a shared facility located beside The Lookout accommodation, offering a relaxing way to unwind after exploring Fiordland.
Guests are welcome to light and manage the sauna themselves at no additional charge. For added convenience, our Sauna Lighting & Preparation Service allows you to simply arrive and enjoy the sauna while we take care of the fire.
The Service Includes
We will prepare, light and tend the sauna fire for approximately 45 minutes before your scheduled arrival time, until it reaches a suitable temperature for your enjoyment. Once the sauna is ready, we leave you to enjoy your session privately. If the sauna requires additional wood during your session, or you wish to extend your session or have a second session, you can tend the fire yourself in accordance with our sauna operating instructions.
The service also secures your preferred available session time. We’ll place a reserved sign on the sauna at the start of the day, so other guests know that it is unavailable during your booked session.

NZD $60 per session
Available as an optional add-on for all guests booking to stay from January 2027 onwards. You can add this service during the booking process.
Prefer to Light the Fire Yourself?
You’re very welcome to do so at no additional charge. For everyone’s safety, our fire-lighting and sauna operating instructions must be followed at all times. Only guests aged 18+ are permitted in the sauna.
Because the sauna is located beside The Lookout, guests staying in the Takahē Suite may particularly appreciate the preparation service rather than making multiple trips uphill to light and tend the fire.
A Special Addition to Your Stay
The sauna is particularly lovely after a day exploring Fiordland, and makes a relaxing addition to a romantic getaway, honeymoon or special occasion.
Recommended session duration: 15-20 minutes.
